Wednesday, 2-27-08 Lydia Mei's First Birthday/Going Home!

A bittersweet day as we are excited to be heading home and it is Lydia Mei's birthday. Bittersweet in that it must be a hard day for Lydia Mei's birth mom. I think of her often and what it must be like for her. Exciting for us though....this part of the journey.....to get Lydia Mei is on it's last leg.

We took the bus to the airport in Guangzhou (leave the hotel at 5:30 am, 4:3o pm Tuesday in Michigan!). From Guangzhou, we flew to Hong Kong, from Hong Kong to LA. In LA, we missed our connecting flight to Chicago by just a few minutes due to the length of time it took for us to get through immigration, baggage claim, and customs. We left LA an hour later on another flight, arriving in Chicago to wait for our connecting flight to Kalamazoo.

Lydia Mei did great the whole trip. She rarely cried. Slept. Ate. Played. We had an extra seat for her the entire trip. Unfortunately, Doug and I did not sleep a whole lot.

After being awake for almost 30 hours, we arrived in Kalamazoo at 9:00 pm. Lydia Mei was wide awake, alert, and ready to meet her family. Jacob, Elizabeth, Benjamin, and Aaron, along with Mom and Ferrel were there to greet us!

I haven't mentioned it before, but Mom and Ferrel stayed the two weeks with our 4 children, managing the schedule, getting everyone to where they needed to be, feeding them, and providing for them. For this, we are eternally grateful. This trip would not have been possible without their willingness to help in such a huge way. God provided a good two weeks for them with no illness or major problems. Doug and I did not worry about things at all. We were able to be in touch via "Panda Phone" every couple of days, and by email.

Praise be to God!
